St. Stephen Protomartyr's custodial relationship with the Chapel of Sts. Mary & Joseph extended from the parish's closure in 2005 until October 2021. At that time the Archdiocese took possession, pending the eventual sale of the property.

St. Stephen hosted an open house on Oct. 10, 2021, for the opportunity to see the church before sacred items were collected by the Archdiocesan Reclamations Office. There was also an offering of miscellaneous items in the Msgr. Keating Center.
