We have begun our Lenten journey once again. May we be blessed with a time for deeper reflection and prayer that will lead each of us closer to the Lord. This time in history reminds us of how quickly our world and our lives can change. Two years of dealing with a virus that impacted all of our lives and now the war in Ukraine. This is indeed a time for special prayer for those who suffer from so many forms of evil in the world. May our united prayer this Lent be for a gentle peace to descend upon our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
The last two weeks have been filled with much activity at the parish — some well planned but made even more interesting by the weather. Our Confirmation was celebrated in the midst of all the ice and still was a grace-filled celebration. A special thank you to all the parents, sponsors, teachers, and all who helped in any way to make this celebration special.
The Gala was celebrated just a few days later with much success. A generous thank you to all who made this possible. All your hours of hard work proved to make the night once again a great success. We also express our appreciation for all who attended and for our sponsors.
The fish fries are also taking place at this time, and we express our gratitude for all the planning that has made this possible once again.
In the middle of all this activity we had to deal with three separate sleet and ice storms. As a result, our three parking lots were salted three times in three days, a total of 1,200 pounds of salt. Keeping our lots clear of ice was much more difficult than the removal of snow. We would have all areas cleared and the next morning all was covered in ice once again. Getting ice off steps is much more time consuming than snow, even with a salt application, in low temperatures.
