In almost every language except English, the name for this annual memorial of the resurrection is some form of the word "Passover." (Pasach, from the Hebrew Pesach, which means "Passover.")
In the early church Easter Sunday did not exist. What is celebrated today as Easter occurred during the night hours preceding dawn on Sunday, the Easter Vigil.
The date of Easter is determined as the Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. Easter can occur on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25.
The tradition of wearing new Easter clothes may be traced to the white robes in which the newly baptized at Easter were clothed.
