Easter does not end abruptly. Easter is a whole season. As Fr. Ron pointed out in his homily last Sunday, the Sundays during the Easter Season are named the XXX Sunday OF Easter, not IN Easter. Easter does not end on Easter Sunday but begins there and continues for 50 days until Pentecost. This is a season of joyous alleluias.
Rather than the first reading being from the Old Testament, during the Easter season the Acts of the Apostles is proclaimed. Luke, the author of Acts, provides a broad survey of the early Church's development.
The Gospel readings during the season remind us of the Easter event, when the Risen Christ revealed himself in different ways to the disciples — by appearing in a locked room, while having breakfast by the sea of Galilee, and on the road to Emmaus.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad. Christ is risen. Alleluia.
