A Prayer After the Earthquake in Haiti
Lord, at times such as this,
when we realize that the ground beneath our feet
is not as solid as we had imagined,
we plead for your mercy.
As the things we have built crumble about us,
we know too well how small we truly are
on this ever-changing, ever-moving,
fragile planet we call home.
Yet you have promised never to forget us.
Do not forget us now.
Today, so many people are afraid.
They wait in fear of the next tremor.
They hear the cries of the injured amid the rubble.
They roam the streets in shock at what they see.
And they fill the dusty air with wails of grief
and the names of missing dead.
Comfort them, Lord, in this disaster.
Be their rock when the earth refuses to stand still,
and shelter them under your wings when homes no longer exist.
Embrace in your arms those who died so suddenly this day.
Console the hearts of those who mourn,
and ease the pain of bodies on the brink of death.
Pierce, too, our hearts with compassion,
we who watch from afar,
as the poorest on this side of the earth
find only misery upon misery.
Move us to act swiftly this day,
to give generously every day,
to work for justice always,
and to pray unceasingly for those without hope.
And once the shaking has ceased,
the images of destruction have stopped filling the news,
and our thoughts return to life’s daily rumblings,
let us not forget that we are all your children
and they, our brothers and sisters.
We are all the work of your hands.
For though the mountains leave their place
and the hills be tossed to the ground,
your love shall never leave us,
and your promise of peace will never be shaken.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
now and forever. Amen.

Lenten Prayer
O God of overflowing love,
I pause at mid-day to join in prayer
with other parishioners
of St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish.
We trust in your love to renew our hearts
during this season of Lent.
We are aware of temptations that can draw
us away from your love and opportunities
that can draw us more deeply into your love.
Refresh our drooping spirits
with the waters of baptism,
Cure the blindness of our hearts
with the light of faith.
Free us from our fears
with the grace of your love.
Through the Cross,
lead us into the fullness of life.
In a special way we pray for Beth, Rose, Connie, Chris,
and their sponsors as they prepare for the Easter sacraments.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Blessing for Our New Parish Center
O God, the builder of all things,
give us courage
to step into tomorrow unafraid,
give us wisdom
to make good and wise decisions,
give us love and zeal
to serve your people well,
and give us insight
to recognize that apart from you
we can do nothing.
You have created all things through your Son
and have made him the unshakable
foundation of your kingdom.
Through the gift of your eternal wisdom,
Send your blessings on this project
and guide its progress day by day
to a successful completion.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

A Prayer For Our City
(submitted by Fr. Ron Chochol)
Wind of God, keep on blowing
over the barriers that we build,
all too easily and readily,
to divide ourselves from one another.
Pick up your seeds of truth and justice.
Carry them across the divisions
created by self-interest, race and wealth,
to create fresh growth in our city.
Fire of God, keep on burning
vigorously in our hearts,
so that with your passion we can work
for the common good in our city.
And where your fire only smolders
in those who are kept in chains
by their narrow-mindedness, greed and poverty,
stir it into flame once again
for the life of our city.
Breath of God, breathe on us,
on all we work with
and on all we shall never know,
even as our lives are linked together in this city.
Breathing in and out, we share the air
and become filled with one another.
May You breathe in us to unite our city.
Word of God, keep on speaking,
so that the diverse peoples of our city
will speak your language of
reconciliation and unity.
Speak justice for all in St. Louis.
Speak mercy where power rules.
Speak healing where spirits are crushed.
Speak love to nourish our hearts.
Bless us and this beloved city of ours
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

St. Stephen 75th Anniversary Prayer
God of every time and place, we, your people of
St. Stephen's Parish, pause daily with open
hearts during this diamond jubilee year to
remember, to celebrate, to believe.
We remember with gratitude those priests
and parishioners who have shepherded your
flock in Holly Hills, lifting us up in our joys,
sustaining us in our sorrows.
We celebrate the faith, the hope, and the love,
the talents, the wisdom, and the hard work
that have nurtured our parish community
of faith.
We believe that you will continue to bless us
with your grace and favor, as you call us
to serve one another, our neighbors, and
the larger community.
We offer this prayer in the power
of your Spirit, to your honor and glory,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Capital Campaign Prayer
O God, You have abundantly blessed us in the past,
You take care of our needs in the present,
You will walk with us into the future.
As our parish begins this capital campaign,
we ask that You look favorably
on all that we are about to do.
We are grateful for the sacrifices and the hard work
of previous generations of parishioners
who have helped make our parish what it is today.
May we be as generous in sharing our time,
our talent, and our treasure as we look to the future.
Through the intercession of St. Stephen,
who responded to specific needs within his own community,
may God bless the work of our campaign!
Amen!

Prayer to Obtain the
Beatification of
Venerable Felix de Andreis
0 Lord Jesus Christ,
Who, by the working of miracles
hast deigned to honor Thy loving servants,
we beseech Thee to glorify,
through the intercession of Thy Immaculate Mother,
Thy servant Venerable Felix de Andreis,
by evident signs and wonders,
so that for the exaltation of Thy Name and the salvation of souls,
he may by Thy power be declared Blessed.
Amen.
